Hi everyone
I have a problem I would love your insight on.
I moved from the UK to Spain 6 months ago after falling for a Spaniard when I was living in London. We moved to his home town, Madrid, where I work as a freelance writer. My boyfriend plays golf every weekend close to his parent's house. Sometimes I go with him (not golf...I hate golf). His family are wonderful (mum: very kind and sweet; dad: quite dominant, traditional Spanish man!) but they speak no English. I am learning Spanish, but it is a SLOW process and I find communication hugely challenging. I am an introvert anyway so I find situations around the dinner table or when I am alone with his parents extremely stressful and pressured.
Conversion is tough, but they appreciate when I try. I try implementing what I have learned from this course (talk about them, ask them about family, show interest in photos etc) and I am thinking of preparing little stories I can use in certain situations.
However I was wondering if anyone has any other advice to deal with this situation, or if anyone has been in my position before?
Many thanks
